Tokyo 2020 Olympics to be “scrapped” in 2021

Games chief Yoshiro Mori has said that the games will be scrapped in 2021 if it is to be postponed to 2022. Tokyo 2020 is now scheduled for 23rd July to 8th August 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic that is currently ripping through the world.

Experts have expressed their concerns on whether the games will be able to go ahead next summer, if there is no vaccine for COVID-19, with over 50 countries all coming together to compete the rise of infection increases and so does the risk of spectators becoming infected.

Tokyo Olympics not certain to go ahead in 2021

As the pandemic tears through the world, major sporting events are getting cancelled. The Tokyo Olympics has been postponed but has no guarantee that it will take place next year as planned.

Tokyo 2020 has been one of the major competitions to be cancelled as a result of COVID-19, a noticed was passed over a fortnight ago to push back the Olympics to July 2021, but the chief executive has admitted that the games may still not be able to go head with the worry of so many people from all around the world being in one place.

Chief Executive, Toshiro Muto said on friday “I don’t think anyone would be able to say if it is going to be possible to get [the pandemic] under control by next July or not”, giving a very vivid picture of how the games will be played out. “We’re certainly not in a position to give a clear answer.” with all this uncertainty no straight answer has been given and we await a definite answer.
